Will the Major Record Companies Die Out Around 2011?

Last week I read an article by TechCrunch predicting how they think music will be distributed in a few years. The insight was given by industry execs. While I think that some of it is true, I think it'll take another decade to get rid of the CD format. Being that its a physical product being sold, big companies will always be able to mass produce and sell it to the consumer. This will enable the big music company and maybe the artist to make some kind of money - 10 years down the line its possible that the Compact Disc will be obsolete but not any time soon.
